Foundations Class in Cincinnati is doing well, and I really appreciate everyone’s participation and the comments and feedback I have received. We may not be getting in as many classes as we would like, but we are slowly getting them in!
I am updating the schedule and other information below as the year progresses, so be sure to check below for the latest on dates and locations. The summer camps will put a pause in our progression, but that will give everyone time to work on their last essay assignment, so perhaps it works out!
Our motivating verses in this class are these:
“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.” — 1 Peter 3:15
“…but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” — 1 Timothy 3:15
(FWIW: That they both fit the pattern “1 xxx 3:15” should make them easy memory verses.)
Can we do that? Can we adequately explain to others why we believe what we believe? Can we defend what we believe to those who would challenge it? Can we act competently in our capacity as members of the Church of God, the “pillar and ground of the truth,” when we are in discussions about our faith with those outside our faith?
If you are interested in growing in these things, then I believe this class will help you do just that, both grounding you in the fundamentals of our beautiful faith while also helping to equip you to defend and explain that faith to others.
The plan is to do more of an interactive classroom/workshop than what our usual Bible Study allows (even though those often have an interactive element as well). We’ll have a structure, to be sure, but we’ll also talk about the sorts of questions and challenges people are presenting you with in your daily interactions and hopefully be able to use those as some examples to teach all of us how we can effectively fulfill the command of 1 Peter 3:15.
I pray that it is a useful class! We will, to a certain extent, be creating the class as we go, but I believe it is a worthwhile experiment. Please be prepared to give your feedback as the class progresses.
As currently scheduled, we’ll have class on one Sunday per month in Cincinnati, with a few exceptions to accommodate for Holy Days, camp, and other scheduling needs.
