On tonight’s Friday Night Greetings, I am sitting on the floor not because I have been a bad boy, but because I wanted to put my computer on the nice new little table we purchased at the Cincinnati Auction last Saturday night. My thanks to Mr. Ralph Carpenter for donating it, and my thanks to many others, out there, for your own donations to the auction! It went wonderfully, with Mr. Bibb doing the auctioneering and Mrs. Bibb and her team (including, at least, her kiddos and Ms. Meade) in the back dutifully recording every transaction on their spreadsheets, instantly giving everyone a total to be paid at the evening’s end. It was a hoot, and I enjoyed it immensely.
And who would have known that a rare six-pack of Dublin Dr Pepper and a box of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese would show up for auction! Very sneaky, Mr. Jackson…
In competition with the appearance of the Dublin DP & Mac & Cheese for my favorite part of the evening is a moment that happened when young Mr. Denin Wayne offered an afternoon of his labor for auction. As he stood up at the front rotating and showing himself as a hard-working young man, the auctioneer mentioned that he was available to help with whatever tasks we have. And since I had just given a sermon earlier that day on the topic of counseling before marriage, I–in a heckling sort of mood–shouted out to Denin, “Do you do marriage counseling?” To which Denin responded without missing a beat: “Do you need some?” Ha! Everyone laughed and I strolled up to the front to shake his hand and congratulate him for a successful burn. Well played, Mr. Wayne. Well played…
And, for the record, his offer of an afternoon of labor fetched the highest price of the evening–purchased by his grandfather. 🙂
A wonderful time was had by all, and, again, my thanks to everyone who pitched in.
Tonight’s greetings are below. Have a wonderful Sabbath!
